PROFILE /
Yukiko Sugiyama — Born in Kyoto in 1985. In 2011, she completed her Master’s degree in Sculpture at Kanazawa College of Art, where she studied in the Kishio Suga Seminar.
In April of the same year, she began her career as an artist based in Kyoto. While working as a sculptor, she organized “M&V experience,” a program presented in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura as part of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Italy. In 2017, she began working with photography and moved to Los Angeles. The following year, her CRASH series was selected as a finalist for the KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+ Award 2018, an international photography festival and award program. The same series also entered the collection of internationally renowned art collector Jean Pigozzi.
From October 2019 to January 2020, she co-founded a pop-up gallery with Dr. Moritz Vischer, an engineer who also teaches at ETH Zurich, and organized exhibitions in Zurich, Switzerland. In January of the same year, she was selected as a finalist in the German competition The Independent Photographer by National Geographic photographer Ed Kashi. In August, she participated in “Phenomenology of Hope,” a VR 3D gallery project operated by SUPERCOLLIDER in Los Angeles. In November, she was selected as a finalist for the Silvana S. Foundation Commission Award, part of the Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF).
In January 2021, she appeared in the BS Fuji television program Break Zenya: Artists of the Next Generation. From among a total of 260 featured artists, she was selected by Sadaya Iwabuchi, Editor-in-Chief of Bijutsu Techo, to participate in an exhibition at Ginza Six Tsutaya Books. She also launched a project to restore the experimental X-34 spacecraft.
In April 2022, she participated together with scientists in The Arctic Circle – Artist & Scientist Residency Program 2022, an Arctic residency program. Her major solo exhibitions include SALVAGE 2023 (Roppongi Hills A/D Gallery, Tokyo), CRASH / PHASES 2022 (Ginza Tsutaya Books, Tokyo; Okazaki Tsutaya Books, Kyoto), and CRASH 2021 (roid works gallery, Tokyo).
As of 2025, she is a researcher at the Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences (MIMS), Meiji University.
杉山 有希子 - 1985年京都市生まれ。2011年に金沢美術工芸大学の彫刻専攻 (菅木志雄ゼミ) 修士課程を修了。
同年4月から京都市を拠点に作家活動を開始。彫刻家として活動の傍らイタリア文化会館 (Istituto Italiano di Cultura)、日伊国交樹立150周年記念プログラム 「M&V experience」を企画。2017年から写真を始めロサンゼルスへ渡米。翌年の2018年、国際的な写真芸術 KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+Award 2018 にて自身の｢CRASH｣シリーズがファイナリスト賞に選ばれる。また同シリーズは世界的に著名なアートコレクター Jean Pigozzi 氏のコレクションにも入った。2019年10月から2020年の1月にかけて、エンジニアでチューリッヒ工科大学でも教鞭をとっている Dr.Moritz Vischer 氏と共同でポップアップギャラリーを立ち上げ、企画展示をスイスのチューリッヒにて開催。同年1月、ドイツのコンペティション「The Independent Photographer」でナショナルジオグラフィックのEd Kashi 氏によってファイナリストに選出される。8月、ロサンゼルスのSUPERCOLLIDER が運営する VR 3D ギャラリー「Phenomenology of Hope」に参加。11月、Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) のプログラムの一つである「Silvana S. Foundation Commission Award」のファイナリストを獲得。2021年1月、BSフジ｢ブレイク前夜～次世代の芸術家達～｣に主演し、総勢260人の出演者の中から「美術手帖」総編集長の岩渕貞哉氏に選出され、銀座SIX 蔦屋書店の展示に参加。幻のスペースクラフトX-34の再生プロジェクトを始動。
2022年4月、「The Arctic Circle – Artist & Scientist Residency Program 2022」の北極圏レジデンスプログラムにサイエンティストと共同参加。主な個展に「SALVAGE 2023」(六本木ヒルズ A / D ギャラリー 東京) 、「CRASH / PHASES 2022」(銀座蔦屋書店 東京、岡崎蔦屋書店 京都) 、「CRASH 2021」(ロイドワークスギャラリー 東京)など。
